Akron Set to Host Northeast Ohio Quad

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron track and field team is set to host the Northeast Ohio Quad this weekend as the Zips welcome Ashland, Kent State and Youngstown State to the Lee R. Jackson Track and Field Complex on Friday and Saturday, April 6-7.
The two-day meet will commence with the men's and women's hammer being contested on Friday beginning at 3:30 p.m.
Due to impending weather forecasts predicting temperatures to be around 32 at the start of the second day of the meet on Saturday, the competition will be split between Lee R. Jackson Track and Field Complex and the Stile Athletics Field House.
Field events will kick off the day with the men's javelin outdoors at 11 a.m. before action on the track commences with the women's 4x100 relay indoors at 1 p.m.
The meet will be scored as triple duals (individual events: 5-3-2-1, relays 5-3).
Live stats of the Northeast Ohio Quad as well as a video stream of the indoor running events will be available at GoZips.com.
NATIONAL RANKINGS: The University of Akron women's and men's track and field teams are ranked 53rd and 54th, respectively, in the 2018 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I Outdoor Track and Field National Team Computer Rankings released on April 2.
The Zips are the highest-rated team in the Mid-American Conference in both polls, while the men are the No. 3 squad in the latest Great Lakes Regional poll and the women fourth.
ZIPS AMONG NATION'S BEST IN LATEST TFRRS RANKINGS: Akron currently has 11 student-athletes ranked in the top-25 nationally by the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS), including junior Matt Ludwig (Chardon, Ohio), who owns the No. 4 mark nationally in the men's pole vault (18-4.50/5.60m).
Also rated among the top-25 is junior Lucy Bryan (Bristol, England) (fifth in women's pole vault – 14-3.25/4.35m), freshman Jenna Frantz (Versailles, Ohio) (eighth in women's pole vault – 13-11.25/4.25m), redshirt junior Jordan Latimer (Huber Heights, Ohio) (eighth in the men's long jump – 25-8.25/7.83m), senior Terrell McClain (Youngstown, Ohio) (eighth in the men's long jump – 25-8.25/7.83m ), redshirt sophomore Ian Behm (Volant, Pa.) (10th in the men's javelin – 231-7/70.59m), junior Dara Perry (Akron, Ohio) (11th in women's 100-meter hurdles – 13.11), senior Jackie Siefring (Covington, Ohio) (17th in the women's 400-meter hurdles – 59.04), junior Eboni Hall (Pickerington, Ohio) (20th in women's pole vault – 13-5.25/4.10m), junior Rodrigo Iglesias (Logrono, Spain) (23rd in men's javelin – 222-11/67.95m) and junior Abigale Wilson (Carrollton, Ohio) (25th in women's discus – 174-3/53.11m).
A YEAR AGO: Sparked by a trio of victories from senior Daziah Green (Canton, Ohio), the University of Akron track and field team garnered 26 first-place performances en route to claiming a trio of dual-meet triumphs on the final day of the Northeast Ohio Quad on April 15, 2017, at the Lee R. Jackson Track and Field Complex.
The Zips' men's squad registered dual-meet wins over Ashland (129.0-43.0), Kent State (105.0-77.0) and Youngstown State (125.0-55.0), while the women's squad bettered the Eagles (116.0-66.0), Golden Flashes (119.0-56.0) and Penguins (121.0-56.0).
Green posted individual triumphs in the 100 and 200 meters as well as running the third leg on the winning 4x400 relay squad. Green recorded the second-best time in program history in the 100 meters, 11.54, before turning in the fourth-fastest time in the school record book in the 200 meters, 23.67.
Recording a then season-best mark of 7-0.25 (2.14m) to win the men's high jump was junior Cody Stine (Shelby, Ohio).
The Zips also benefited from wins on the women's side by Abigale Wilson in the shot put (47-2.50/14.39m), redshirt junior Elizabeth Mosier (Austintown, Ohio) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:22.01), Dara Perry in the 100-meter hurdles (13.67), sophomore Dimitra Gnafaki (Chania, Greece) in the 400-meter hurdles (60.01) as well as the 4x400 relay team (3:44.07) of Kiara Chatman, sophomore Iman Batiste (Dublin, Ohio), Green and Gnafaki.
In the men's competition, Akron also received wins from Jordan Latimer in the long jump (24-5.25/7.45m), sophomore Nick Stricklen (Lexington, Ohio) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:10.63), sophomore Dylan Hochbein (Sarver, Pa.) as well as the 4x400 relay team of junior Joe Harrington (Youngstown, Ohio), senior Taron Slone (Columbus, Ohio), Miles Baldwin and Matt Ludwig, which crossed the line in 3:18.15.
