AKRON, Ohio — The University of Akron women's volleyball team will host two tournaments and eight Mid-American Conference opponents as part of its 2018 schedule, head coach Tom Hanna announced on Friday.

Akron volleyball opens the 2018 season against Cal State Fullerton on Friday, August 24, at the Titan Classic, co-hosted by Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside. The Zips will also face Eastern Washington and Montana on August 25.

In its home opener, UA hosts Maryland in the opening match of the Akron Invitational on Friday, August 31, at James A. Rhodes Arena. The tourney field includes Canisius and Stony Brook for action on Sept. 1-2.

The Zips travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., for the Black & Gold Invitational on Sept. 7-8. The field includes host Wake Forest, Elon, and Georgia Southern. Match-ups and times will be announced at a later date.

Akron returns home to Rhodes Arena for the Zips Invitational on Sept. 14-15. UA will host Bucknell on Friday, Sept. 14, and Iona and Youngstown State on Saturday, Sept. 15.

The Zips open MAC play at home on Sept. 21 with Miami (Ohio) and on Sept. 22 with Bowling Green. Other home MAC matches include Buffalo (Thursday, Oct. 4), Toledo (Oct. 6), Central Michigan (Oct. 19), Eastern Michigan (Oct. 20), Ohio (Nov. 2), and Kent State (Nov. 3) in the Crystal Clinic Wagon Wheel Challenge match.

The 2018 MAC Championship is slated for Nov. 15-18 at Miami (Ohio) in Oxford, Ohio.

"We're excited about our 2018 schedule," Hanna said. "We have a good mix of opponents in non-conference play that should have us prepared for an always tough MAC schedule. Hosting two tournaments early on will be beneficial after traveling the weekend before each one. Those home weekends will help keep us physically fresh as opposed to being on the road for three or four weeks in the non-conference part of our schedule while getting our team out to different parts of the country."

Volleyball season tickets are just $40 for general admission. Discounted season tickets are available for current UA Faculty and Staff at $32. Single-game tickets go on sale for all fall sports on July 9.
