AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron women's tennis team hits the road for two weekend Mid-American Conference matches.
The Zips (12-8 overall, 1-1 MAC) visit Bowling Green (10-5 overall, 2-0 MAC) on Friday, March 30, at 1 p.m. at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
On Sunday, April 1, Akron travels to Miami (Ohio) (6-7 overall, 2-0 MAC) for a 1 p.m. match at the Miami University Tennis Courts.
"Every MAC match is an important one," head coach Brandon Padgett. "And we know that we will have to fight and claw for every point, and that's exactly what I need this team to do. I know we are capable of accomplishing great things if every player gives her full effort and is focused on the task at hand."
In all-time series, BGSU leads Akron, 28-10. The RedHawks hold a 25-3 edge over the Zips although UA claimed a 4-3 win last season.
Last week, Akron opened MAC play with a split, dropping a 4-3 decision at Eastern Michigan and winning 5-2 at home against Toledo.
Freshman Miruna Vasilescu (Ulm, Germany), this week's MAC Singles Player of the Week, is 14-2 (2-0 in MAC) in singles action this spring. Junior Luisa Echeverry (Cali, Colombia) stands 12-6 in singles action. Junior Carla Flores (Caohuila, Mexico) is 5-2 at No. 6 singles this spring.
