PERRYSBURG, Ohio – The University of Akron women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at Bowling Green in Mid-American Conference action on Friday afternoon at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
"Very difficult loss today," said Akron head coach Brandon Padgett. "Bowling Green played exceptionally well, in fact, it's the best BG has played against us since I started coaching at Akron. That being said, we let leads in sets get away from us on some courts and didn't play at the level that we know we are capable of. I'm disappointed for the team, because they had a good week of practice, and were ready to play, but just weren't able to really get into the match."
The Falcons (11-5, 3-0 MAC) claimed the doubles point against the Zips (12-9 overall, 1-2 MAC) with wins at the No. 1 and 2 spots. Play at No. 3 was halted once the point was won.
"We were over-hitting in doubles and put too much pressure on ourselves to win every point," Padgett said.
In singles action, the lone Zips' victory came at No. 5 as freshman Anna Uljanov (Schweinfurt, Germany) beat Vanesa Pardo in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Akron travels to Miami (Ohio) on Sunday, April 1, for a 1 p.m. match.
"It doesn't get any easier on Sunday, but it's great that we have the opportunity to get right back onto the court," Padgett added. "We simply need to go out and get back to having some fun playing the game we love. When we play relaxed tennis, we are absolutely at our best!"
