OXFORD, Ohio – The University of Akron women's tennis team fell in Mid-American Conference action at Miami (Ohio), 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at the Riverside Athletic Club.
"Today was such a tough loss for this team to take," said Akron head coach Brandon Padgett. "We played such high-quality singles and were literally points away from a team win. My heart breaks for this team, because they deserve a better outcome. We let some deuce points and match points slip through our fingers, which in the end was the difference in the match."
The RedHawks (7-8, 3-1 MAC) claimed the doubles point against the Zips (12-10 overall, 1-3 MAC) with wins at the No. 1 and 3 spots.
In singles action, the Zips earned victories at the No. 5 and 6 spots.
At No. 5, freshman Anna Uljanov (Schweinfurt, Germany) defeated Lena Babunski in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
At No. 6, junior Carla Flores (Caohuila, Mexico) improved to 6-2 singles this spring with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Anastasia Vasiukhin.
Akron hosts Western Michigan on Friday, April 6, at 1 p.m. Weather will determine if play will take place at the UA outdoor tennis courts or the LaTuchie Tennis Center.
