Women’s Tennis Hosts WMU; Travels to NIU

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron women's tennis team continues Mid-American Conference action this weekend.
The Zips (12-10 overall, 1-3 MAC) host Western Michigan (11-7, 2-0 MAC) on Friday, April 6, at 1 p.m. at the LaTuchie Tennis Center in Stow.
On Saturday, April 7, Akron travels to Northern Illinois (5-13 overall, 0-4 MAC) for a 4 p.m. match at the Boylan Tennis Center.
In all-time series, WMU leads the Akron, 25-7. NIU also leads the Zips in series play, 18-11.
Last week, Akron dropped two MAC road matches, a 6-1 decision at Bowling Green and a 5-2 loss at Miami (Ohio).
Freshman Miruna Vasilescu (Ulm, Germany) is 14-4 in singles action this spring, playing at the No. 1 and 2 spots. Junior Luisa Echeverry (Cali, Colombia) stands 12-8 in singles action. Junior Carla Flores (Caohuila, Mexico) is 6-2 at No. 6 singles this spring.
At No. 1 doubles, sophomore Rita Pedroso (Porto, Portugal) and freshman Anna Uljanov (Schweinfurt, Germany) are 8-4 at the position this spring. At No. 3 doubles, senior captain Carli Knezevich (Austin, Texas) and senior Waverly Wituski (Springboro, Ohio) are 2-2 (2-0 in MAC) in spring action.
