Women's Tennis Hosts Youngstown State & La Salle on Thursday

AKRON, Ohio – In the final non-conference action of the season, the University of Akron women's tennis team returns home to host Youngstown State and La Salle on Thursday, March 15.

The Zips (10-6 overall) take on the Penguins (5-9 overall) at Noon, followed by the Explorers (2-6 overall) at 4 p.m. at the LaTuchie Tennis Center in Stow.Â

"We hope to continue to build upon the groundwork that has been laid in our final two non-conference matches," head coach Brandon Padgett. Â "It's been a good season thus far, but we need re-focus our efforts into these two matches, making sure we are giving full, consistent effort moving forward."

In all-time series, Akron leads Youngstown State, 26-4. This is the first meeting between UA and La Salle in women's tennis.

In its only action last week, UA claimed a 4-3 victory at Cleveland State.

Freshman Miruna Vasilescu (Ulm, Germany) is 11-2 in singles action this spring, moving up from No. 6 to No. 1-2 after starting out her collegiate career at a perfect 8-0. Â Junior Luisa Echeverry (Cali, Colombia) stands 9-5 in singles action, seeing action at the No. 2-5 positions. Freshman Anna Uljanov (Schweinfurt, Germany) is 7-4 in singles action this spring, playing the No. 3-5 positions.

At No. 1 doubles, sophomore Rita Pedroso (Porto, Portugal) and Uljanov are 5-1 at the position. At No. 3 doubles, senior captain Carli Knezevich (Austin, Texas) and freshman Madison Wolfe (Monument, Colo.) are 3-0 in spring action.
