AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron women's tennis team continues its four-match home stand this week with two non-conference matches slated for the weekend.
Â
On Friday, Feb. 16, UA hosts West Virginia at 1 p.m. On Sunday, Feb. 18, the Zips play East Tennessee State at 10 a.m.  West Virginia and ETSU will play each other on Saturday, Feb. 17, at 10 a.m. All matches will be held at the LaTuchie Tennis Center in Stow.Â
Â
"This weekend continues to provide more top quality match play for our young, inexperienced team," said eighth-year head coach Brandon Padgett. Â "We have had a good week of practice, and we will have our full lineup available, as we continue to work through possible doubles combinations. Â I'm excited to see how we match up with another Power 5 team, and a very strong ETSU team. Â With each match we play, we gain the experience needed to be fully prepared for MAC play."
Â
In all-time series, Akron stands 4-10 against the Mountaineers and 1-3 against the Bucs. UA lost to West Virginia last spring in Morgantown, 4-3. Akron and ETSU last met in 2016 with the Bucs claiming a 5-2 home win.
Â
Last week, the Zips (5-4 overall) split a pair of home matches, falling to Top 30 ranked Tennessee and beating local rival Walsh.
Â
Freshman Miruna Vasilescu (Ulm, Germany), who moved up to the No. 2 singles position, remains undefeated in singles play. She stands a perfect 6-0 in singles action. Freshman Anna Uljanov (Schweinfurt, Germany) is 3-1 in singles action this spring, playing the No. 3-4 positions.
Â
Vasilescu is also undefeated (4-0) in doubles action with partner junior Luisa Echeverry (Cali, Colombia). Junior Carla Flores (Coahuila, Mexica) and sophomore Rita Pedroso (Porto, Portugal) are 2-0 at No. 3 doubles action this spring.
