Women’s Tennis to Participate in Viking Invitational

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron women's tennis team will participate in Cleveland State's Viking Invitational at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion this weekend.
Action begins on Friday, Oct. 5, at 10 a.m. in singles action with Connecticut. The complete tournament schedule is listed below.
"We are excited to get back on court this weekend with the entire team," head coach Brandon Padgett said. "This will be the first tournament of the fall where we will have every player available for the same tournament. We will be trying some new doubles combinations, which we are looking forward to seeing play against someone other than teammates. This weekend's results are important for those that aspire to compete at the Midwest Regional tournament in a couple of weeks."
In the only team tourney this fall, Akron was led by redshirt senior Sophia Geier (Burgebrach, Germany) at the Akron Invitational on Sept. 21-23. The team captain captured the singles title with a 3-0 record en route to MAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors and Zips' Summa Health Student-Athlete of the Week accolades.
In doubles action, the veteran teamed with true freshman Holland Long (Rochester, N.Y.). The duo went 2-1 at No. 2 doubles in Long's collegiate debut.
