AKRON, Ohio – The No. 22-ranked University of Akron women's swimming and diving team is set to open Mid-American Conference competition as it hosts Buffalo in its first dual of the season on Friday, Oct. 26, at 5 p.m. at Ocasek Natatorium. The meet will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
The Zips head into the meet at the heels of just being ranked No. 22 in the CSCAA TYR Top 25 Poll, announced on Wednesday, Oct. 24.
The Zips and the Bulls did not meet in head-to-head action last year. However, Buffalo did compete at Akron's Zippy Invitational. Akron won the meet overall with 2,059.5 points while Buffalo finished second with 1,534.5 points.
The last time the two programs faced off in a dual setting was Nov. 3, 2016, where Buffalo came out on top.
In the MAC Women's Swimming and Diving Preseason Coaches Poll, Akron was unanimously selected to capture its sixth straight MAC title, while Buffalo was picked to finish fourth.
The Bulls opened up their season defeating Cornell on Saturday, Oct. 20.
After opening their 2018-19 campaign by hosting and winning the Akron Zips Classic, four of the Zips' five relays rank among the top 10 times nationally. Akron also has eight swimmers ranking in the top 20 in individual events.
This will be the first time Akron's divers will be competing this season.
Up next, Akron competes in its first pair of road contests, taking on Ohio State and Denison at Ohio State on Nov. 2, before traveling to Muncie, Ind. to go head-to-head against Ball State, Saturday, Nov. 3.
