Powells Point, N.C. — Redshirt freshmen Beau Bayerl (Ashland, Ohio) fired a team-best 3-under par 68 second-round score at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate, leading the Akron men's golf squad to 10^th place with 306-288 – 594 (+26) team total on Monday.

On day two of the tournament, Bayerl carded five birdies en route to elevating 24 spots on the leaderboard and tied for 20^th overall with a 77-68 - 145 (+3). He finished the initial nine holes at even par with a pair of birdies and bogeys mixed with five par scores. On the back-9, Bayerl played bogey-free while collecting three birdies and six pars.

All five Zips improved in round two. Senior Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.) shaved one stroke off his opening round score and posted an even-par 71 ledger. Grayson is currently tied for 11^th overall on the leaderboard with a 1-over par 36-hole total. His 72-71 – 143 (+1) leads the Zips' scoring.

Cutting four strokes from their previous round totals were freshman Ignacio Puente (Seville, Spain) and junior Mitchell McFarland (Wheelersburg, Ohio). Puente is third in scoring for Akron with a 77-73 - 150 (+8) tally, while McFarland's 80-76 - 156 (+14) total ranks fourth.

Redshirt freshman Kaleb Smith (Mansfield, Ohio) rounded out the team scoring and improved by two strokes with an 84-82 - 166 (+24).

Tuesday's Final round action is slated to begin at 8:45 a.m. for Akron from the 10^th hole tee box. Smith will get the Zips started, followed by McFarland (8:54), Puente (9:03), Bayerl (9:12), and Grayson (9:21).
