AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron women's tennis team will play three matches this weekend.
Continuing road action, the Zips travel to Olean, N.Y., for two matches on Friday, Jan. 26. First, UA will face host St. Bonaventure at 10 a.m. at the SBU Fitness Center. Akron then faces Niagara at 2 p.m.
The Zips return to Ohio for their home opener against Wright State at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 28, at the LaTuchie Tennis Center in Stow.
"We are excited to see how we have progressed from the opening weekend of play," said eighth-year head coach Brandon Padgett. "And with three matches this weekend, we should start to see a clearer picture of what our team will look like moving forward. We hope to build upon each match we play."
Akron opened the spring slate last weekend, going 1-1 on the road. Senior captain Carli Knezevich (Austin, Texas), this week's MAC Singles Player of the Week, went a perfect 2-0 in singles play at the No. 2 spot.
Other singles wins against Detroit Mercy came from freshman Anna Uljanov (Schweinfurt, Germany) at No. 3, junior Luisa Echeverry (Cali, Colombia) at No. 5, and freshman Miruna Vasilescu (Ulm, Germany) at No. 6 singles.
In doubles action, Knezevich and sophomore Rita Pedroso (Porto, Portugal) went 1-1 at the No. 1 position. Echeverry and Uljanov won at No. 3 doubles.
