MAC Games Announced, Men’s Basketball Releases Full 2017-18 Schedule

Cleveland, Ohio – One week after the Akron Zips men's basketball program released its 2017-18 non-conference schedule, the Mid-American Conference announced the league portion on Thursday.
This season's MAC campaign features three nationally broadcasted events for Akron with five wildcard dates scheduled for February. Times and dates of the potential wildcard games will be announced with the MAC's complete television contract release in October.
"We are looking forward to another exciting season of MAC Basketball," Zips' head coach John Groce said. "Our non-conference schedule was put together to help prepare us for the rigors of league play. The quality of the coaches, players and environments make our conference as competitive as any nationally from top to bottom. Our staff and players are looking forward to the challenge."
The Zips open MAC play in Kalamazoo, Mich., against Western Michigan on Tuesday, Jan. 2, at University Arena. Three days later, Akron is scheduled to play the first of two MAC East/West crossover series and first nationally televised game of the year against Toledo. On Friday, Jan 5, the Zips will travel to Toledo, Ohio for a showdown with the Rockets on CBS Sports Network at Savage Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET.
Akron's MAC home opener is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 9, when Akron hosts Buffalo. UA continues league play at home against Bowling Green for the first installment of East Division play, before traveling to Ypsilanti, Mich., to battle Eastern Michigan on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at the EMU Convocation Center.
Next, Akron returns to James A. Rhodes Arena for a pair of games. First, the Zips host Northern Illinois on Saturday, Jan. 20, followed by the first head-to-head battle with rival Ohio on Tuesday, Jan. 23.
Akron will hit the road for the next two league games, starting with the second MAC East/West crossover series against Ball State. The Zips are scheduled to play the Cardinals on CBS Sports Network at noon on Saturday, Jan. 27. The second game of the MAC road trip is at Miami on Tuesday, Jan. 30.
In February, the Zips have four home and four away games, and finishes the season with five of the last nine games at the JAR. The month starts with Akron hosting Toledo for the second game of the crossover series. CBS Sports Network will broadcast the game live from Rhodes Arena on Saturday, Feb. 3, beginning at noon.
Akron heads to Athens for the second meeting with OU on Tuesday, Feb. 6 followed by a return to the Rubber City to face Central Michigan at Rhodes Arena on Saturday, Feb. 10. The Zips continue the two-game home stand by hosting Ball State for the second meeting of the season on Tuesday, Feb. 13.
The Zips play three of the last five games on the road all against Eastern conference opponents, starting with two-consecutive away destinations. On Saturday, Feb. 17, the Akron and Kent State series begins at the M.A.C. Center. The Zips continue to play on the road, traveling to Bowling Green, Ohio to play the Falcons at the Stroh Center on Tuesday, Feb. 20.
Akron has a home game against the RedHawks on Saturday, Feb. 24, at Rhodes Arena, before wrapping-up its regular-season travel schedule against Buffalo on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at Alumni Arena.
For the Rhodes Arena season finale, the Zips are scheduled to host the re-match against the Golden Flashes on Friday, March 2.
Next, the Zips will compete in the Mid-American Conference Tournament. First round matchups for the MAC Tournament are scheduled to begin on Monday, March 5 with games at campus sites before moving to Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland on Thursday through Saturday, March 8-10, for the quarterfinal, semifinal and championship rounds. The MAC Championship Game will be played on Saturday, March 10th (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN2).
In August, Akron announced its 12-game non-conference schedule, featuring 16 different conferences, nine programs that won 20 or more games last season, and eight teams that advanced to postseason play. The early season slate also includes the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic and seven home games.
A new era of Akron Zips men's basketball has started, as first-year and veteran head coach John Groce leads six returning players and nine newcomers into battle. Last Season, UA posted 21 or more wins for a 12th-straight season, joining the likes of Duke, Gonzaga, and Kansas. In 2016-17, the Zips set a James A. Rhodes Arena record with 30-consecutive wins, improving to 175-25 (.875) at Rhodes Arena since the 2004-05 season.

Season tickets are now on sale for the 2017-18 campaign, with ticket packages starting at $60 for General Admission to $810/seat for midcourt. Renewal deadline for existing season ticket holders is September 15.
Also available is a $175 Alumni All sport plan that includes season tickets for all of our ticketed sports (MBB, WBB, volleyball, football, men's soccer, and women's soccer).
Akron faculty and staff may purchase Upper Reserved season tickets for $175 and Lower Reserved for $260 plus applicable donation. The Zips also offer a family plan allowing two adults and two children season tickets for $210.
Another option is the All-Access 10-pack available for $100 that allows fans 10-undated vouchers which can be redeemed for 10 general admission tickets for any of Akron's ticketed sporting events.
