Akron Swimming and Diving Turn in Strong Performances at Annual Blue-Gold Intrasquad Meet

AKRON, Ohio- The four-time Mid-American Conference champions Akron women's swimming and diving dove into the preseason with its annual Blue and Gold Intrasquad meet on Friday, Sept. 29, at Ocasek Natatorium.

In a meet comprised of 12 events, the Gold team came out on top over the Blue squad by a score of 137-84 to take the intrasquad crown.

In the first event, the 200 medley relay, the Gold squad relay team made up of freshman Ellie Nebraska (Columbus, Ohio), sophomore Sadie Fazekas (Windsor, Ontario), and juniors Susan Franz (Canton, Ohio) and  Paloma Marrero Munoz (Merida, Spain) touched in first place.

Freshman Brooke Lamoureux (Trenton, Canada) took first in the 400 freestyle for the Gold team, while junior Jackie Pash (Carmel, Ind.) finished second for the Blue squad, and sophomore Jessica Bonezzi (Wooster, Ohio) rounded it out with a third-place performance.

Junior Karly Crail (Edgewood, Ky.) scored the top-score in the three-meter diving event for the Gold team, followed by sophomore Katelyn Applin (Dansville, N.Y.) and freshman Megan Nugent (Rochester, N.Y.) for the Blue Squad.

The Gold team won four of the final five events on the evening, including the 100 fly, 100 freestyle, 100 breast and the 200 freestyle relay.

The Blue squad disrupted the Gold team's rhythm by taking first place in both the 200 IM, and 100 back, on the strength of the efforts of junior Madison Myers (Akron, Ohio), who placed first in both events.

In the one-meter diving event, Krail came out on top for the Gold squad, followed by Applin and Nugent for the Blue team.

The Zips open their 2017-18 campaign hosting Youngstown State in a dual meet on Friday, Oct. 6 at the Ocasek Natatorium. The meet is set to begin at 5 p.m.
