Nashport, Ohio – After 54 holes of the Mid-American Conference Men's Golf Championships, Akron ranks sixth overall with an 894 (+30) three-round team total. Junior George Baylis (Ascot, England) fired a 3-under par 69 en route to a 290 (+2) team score at Virtues Golf Club on Saturday.
Inclement weather caused a four-hour delay before the third round of the MAC Championships, changing the format to a shotgun start beginning at 2:30 p.m. When play finally began, Baylis wasted no time to scoring. Baylis scored par on the No. 9 opening hole. However, on holes 10 and 11, Baylis recorded birdies. He remained 2-under par for the next six holes until a bogey on No. 17 put him at 1-under with nine holes remaining. During the final nine holes of the round, Baylis carded four birdies, three pars, and two bogeys and climbed 15 spots on the leaderboard to 14th overall.
Sophomore Jacob Appleby (North Canton, Ohio) is also tied at 14th overall after a second-consecutive 75 (+3) performance. He recorded 11 pars, three birdies, three bogeys, and a triple bogey. Both, Baylis and Appleby, are 7-over par with 223 three-round totals. Senior Yann Pfeiffer (Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche, France) joind Appleby with a 75 (+3) tally. He currently ranks 26th overall with a 227 (+11) total.
Sophomore Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.) advanced two spots on the leaderboard. Grayson posted back-to-back 73 (+1) scores after opening the tournament with a 78 (+6) ledger. He currently ranks 16th on the leaderboard with a 224 (+8) total. Senior Zach Gollwitzer (Ballwin, Mo.) also fired a 73 (+1) third-round score and moved up four slots on the leaderboard to 28th overall with a 228 (+12) ledger.
