Columbus, Ohio – The Akron Zips men's golf team finished 10^th overall at the 2017 Robert Kepler Intercollegiate hosted by Ohio State after a 310 (+26) final round on Sunday.

The Zips completed the 54-hole event with a 926 (+74) team score at OSU's Scarlet course, a par 71 that stretches 7,455 yards. Akron opened the event with a 315 (+31) and cut 14 strokes off the second round score for a 301 (+17) tally on Saturday.

Illinois climbed one spot during the final round to claim the team title with an 864 (+12) team total, while Kent State earned runner-up with a 874 (+22) ledger. Illinois' Dylan Meyer, who is raked 10^th in the NCAA, won the event with a 2-under par 211 finish, and Kent State's Bjarki Petursson was runner-up at 216 (+3).

Akron's scoring efforts were led by sophomore Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.), carding a 926 (+12) tournament total on rounds of 75 (+4), 71 (E), and 79 (+8) scores. Grayson recorded 32 pars and seven birdies en route to a 19^th place finish.

Sophomore Jacob Appleby (North Canton, Ohio) followed for the Zips, placing 52^nd overall with a 235 (+22) tournament total on rounds of 79 (+8), 76 (+5), and 80 (+9).

Tying for 56^th overall were senior Zach Gollwitzer (Ballwin, Mo.) and junior George Baylis (Ascot, England). Gollwitzer moved up two spots after an 80 (+9) final round, ending with a 236 (+23). Meanwhile, Baylis climbed 12 spots on the leaderboard with a team-low 75 (+4) final round to finish with a 236 (+23).

Freshman Mitchell McFarland (Wheelersburg, Ohio) rounded out the Zips' scoring with a 244 (+31) 54-hole total on scores of 79 (+8), 87 (+16), and 78 (+7).

With the regular season coming to an end, the Zips will be back in action at the Mid-American Conference Championships. The 72-hole MAC Championships will be hosted by Eastern Michigan at the Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio on Friday (36 holes), Saturday (18 holes), and Sunday (18 holes), April 28-30.
