Nicholson Earns Second MAC Golfer of the Week Award

Cleveland, Ohio - Danielle Nicholson earned her second Mid-American Conference Women's Golfer of the Week award this season for her win at the Rio Verde Invitational, the league office announced on Thursday.
Nicholson tied the all-time White Wing Individual Course record at the Rio Verde with a 1-under par 215 tournament total, a par-72 course that stretches 6,215 yards.
Nicholson opened the tournament with a 1-over par 73 score, which was good for sixth place on the leaderboard. During the initial 18-hole round, she recorded 11 pars, three birdies, and four bogeys.
The following day, Nicholson climbed four spots on the leaderboard with a 2-under par 70 performance, brining her within two-strokes of the leader with a 143 (-1) 36-hole score. She carded five birdies to go along with 10 pars and three bogies.
On the final day of competition, Nicholson played an even-par round, recording three birdies and three bogeys with 12 par scores for the 72 score. She finished the Rio Verde Invitational with a tournament-best 1-under par 215-stroke 54-hole tournament total, which tied the Rio Verde Individual Course Record set in 2006.
For the week, Nicholson carded 33 par scores, 11 birdies, and 10 bogeys en route to the 73-70-72 – 215 (-1) medalist performance.
The Akron Zips women's golf team will be back in action on Monday and Tuesday, March 13-14, at the Bradley Spring Invite in Dallas, Texas. The two-day, 54-hole event is scheduled to be played at Brookhaven Country Club.
