Akron Falls to No. 13 Ole Miss

LEXINGTON, Ky.- The No. 16 Akron rifle shot toe-to-toe with No. 13 Mississippi, but fell to the Rebels in a tight match 4,649 to 4,643 last weekend at the University of Kentucky.
The Rebels defeated the Zips in air rifle 2,352 to 2,336, but fell in the smallbore 2,307 to 2,297..
Senior Zachary Strohl (Barto, Pa.) set a new personal best score of 583 out of the possible 600 points in the smallbore competition. Finishing in second place was sophomore hotshot Caleb Lloyd (Seven Valleys, Pa.) who posted a 579. Sophomore Joshua Kovach (Akron, Ohio), set a new personal best with his 571 score.
In the air rifle portion, freshman Cierra Terrizzi posted an impressive score of 590. Following close behind shooting a 588 was freshman Lauryn Cinadr (Brunswick, Ohio) and, Sophomore Rebecca Green (Coventry, R.I.) set a personal best score of 581. The Rebels Ali Weisz led the air rifle competition with a high 592, helping Ole Miss top the air rifle competition.
"As a coach, I can't tell you how rewarding it is to see every member of both Akron teams walking off the line smiling and knowing they nailed it," said head coach Newt Engle. "What a great time to this type of momentum as we approach the important end of the season matches."
In two weeks, on Feb. 18, the Akron rifle team will travel to Ohio State, at the Ly. Hugh W. Wylie Range to participate in the NCAA qualifier match.
