AKRON, Ohio- The University of Akron volleyball head coach Tom Hanna received three national letters of intent on Wednesday, as Jen Durra (Painesville, Ohio), Teagan Ochaya (Mentor, Ohio), and Mahogany Vinson (Richton Park, Ill.) committed to Akron for the 2018-19 academic year.
Â
"With this class being our second full recruiting class, I can't be more excited about the level of athleticism that these three young ladies will bring to our program," said Hanna. "With their arrival, we're certainly adding some extremely athletic pieces that are needed to compete in the MAC. Combine that with not only their current skills set, but the volleyball development that they still have in front of them, we have some great student-athletes who will help us take the next step toward becoming a perennial contender in the MAC."
Â
Jen Durra, a 5-11 left side hitter out of Painesville, Ohio, was named to the 2017 Second Team All-District team and North Coast Power League All-Tournament Team. In 2016, Durra made Second Team All-District. She was awarded Honorable Mention All-District and All-Conference in 2015.
Â
"Jen is a solid player who brings us a lot of experience playing at a high level," Hanna continued. "She has a good offensive range and ball control. Her development the past two years with Eastside Cleveland Juniors has positioned her as a player who can help us get to the top of the MAC."
Â
Teagan Ochaya, a 6-3 right side hitter from Mentor, Ohio, has been a key player for Mentor High School being named to the 2017 Second Team All-Ohio, First Team All-District and All-Conference. Ochaya, an  Under Armour All-American Watch List athlete, was an Honorable Mention All-Ohio and Second Team All-Conference in 2015.
Â
"Teagan has the physical ability to be one of the dominant players in the MAC over the next few years, Hanna Stated. "Her size and athleticism when combined with her ability to attack from any position on the court, will be a great asset to us. She's another Zip who comes to us from Eastside Cleveland Juniors well prepared to be an impact player in the MAC."
Â
Mahogany Vinson, a 6-1 middle blocker from Richton Park, Ill., has been an asset to the Ultimate Volleyball Club Team. Vinson was named to the All-Conference team back-to-back years 2015-16.
Â
"Mahogany is extremely physically gifted and has only scratched the surface of her abilities on the court," said Hanna. "Her development the last two years with Ultimate Volleyball Club has been incredible and I'm confident she'll be taking her game to new levels over the next few years.  Mahogany will without a doubt be one of the most physically talented players in the MAC and we look forward to having her on our side of the net."
The three newcomers will join an Akron team that loses three seniors to graduation following the 2017 season.
