September 25 | Women's Soccer
MUNCIE, Ind. – After a scoreless first half, Ball State was able to score the games lone goal in the 54' as the Zips come up just short to the reigning 2015 MAC regular season champions, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon.
"Ball State is one of the premier teams in the MAC. We put out a good performance today but just came short of the result," said head coach Noreen Herlihy. "It was a tough opening weekend on the road against two top-tier teams, but we are pleased with the performance of our players. The only difference today is they finished their opportunity."
Akron and Ball State played a scoreless first half at the BSU Soccer Complex. The Zips tallied two shots in the first 45 minutes of play.
Freshman Amy Rogozinski (Westlake, Ohio) posted both of Akron shots in the first half. The defenders shot in the 8' was blocked by a Cardinal defender, while her second shot went high of the goal.
Ball State was able to take the lead at the 53:03 mark of the second half. Sam Kambol scored after beating her defender just inside the box and was able to capitalize on the opportunity.
The Zips looked to equal the score in the 54' and 57' of play. Sophomore Shea O'Brien (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) and senior Sarah Sivic (Broadview Heights, Ohio) each garnered a shot on goal for Akron that were turned away by the Ball State goalie.
Freshman Julia Crowe (Ann Arbor, Mich.) attempted to knot up the game with time winding down in the 89' but her shot landed wide of the goal.
Akron returns home to FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field on Friday, Sept. 30, when they host Toledo at 7 p.m.
