AKRON – After a two-week break in action, the Akron men's golf team will enter its second event of the season on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 26-27, at the Bearcat Invitational. The University of Cincinnati will host the event at the 7,150-yard, par-71 Coldstream Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio.
"We are really looking forward to the Bearcat Invitational," Zips head coach David Trainor said. "We had a great 10 days of practice, and we are ready to go. The golf course and field are both strong, but our team is up to the task."
This week, the Zips face another challenging field as six out of 10 teams are ranked in GolfStat's Top 100 and four teams in the Top 50. The Zips will cross paths with No. 26 Kentucky and No. 37 Louisville for the second straight tournament, in addition to, No. 48 Michigan State, No. 49 Charleston, No. 73 Ohio State, No. 88 Mississippi State, host Cincinnati, Middle Tennessee, and Xavier.
Coldstream Country Club is one of Cincinnati's premier private clubs situated on 190 idyllic acres, featuring an elite, championship 18-hole golf course. It has served as the backdrop to numerous Ohio amateur and open championships as well as USGA qualifiers.
Starting for the Zips are senior J.B. Williams (Danville, Ky.), sophomore Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.), sophomore Jacob Appleby (North Canton, Ohio), defending Mid-American Conference champion junior George Baylis (Ascot, England), and senior Zach Gollwitzer (Ballwin, Mo.) and junior Chandler Morgan (Lexington, Ky.). In addition, Gollwitzer and Morgan will be making their season debut at the Bearcat Invitational.
First round action at the Bearcat Invitation is scheduled for a shotgun start on Monday, Sept. 26, at 8:30 a.m. with continuous play through the second round. For Tuesday's final 18-hole round, teams will have tee times on holes No. 1 and 10, beginning at 8 a.m.
