Zips Women's Soccer Opens 2016 Training Camp
August 09 | Women's Soccer
AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron women's soccer program opened training camp to officially begin the 2016 pre-season.
Under the guidance of second-year head coach Noreen Herlihy, the Zips return 14 letterwinners including second-team All-MAC selection Annabelle Hegeman (Forstburg, Md.) and last years leading goal scorer Sarah Sivic (Broadview Heights, Ohio).
Along with the returning upperclassman, Akron recruited 13 incoming freshman to the roster.
"We look forward to working with the players over the pre-season period. We have a lot of young players to integrate into the squad, and we will be patient taking it one day at a time," said Herlihy. "It's a fine balance of getting the new players up to speed while also making sure we stay healthy as a squad. Ultimately, we need to be as ready as possible for the MAC season, and everyone is going to be working hard to achieve that."
Akron opens the 2016 season regular season against Milwaukee on Friday, Aug. 19, in Milwaukee, Wisc. The Zips return to First Energy Field – Cub Cadet field for the 2016 home opener on Thursday, Sept. 8, against UC Riverside.
