Zips Soccer Heads to Indiana for a Pair of Contests

WHATS AHEAD
The Zips opened the 2016 regular season splitting their trip to Wisconsin last weekend, 1-1. Akron dropped its season opener, 0-1, to Milwaukee on Aug. 19, before defeating Green Bay, 3-1, on Aug. 21. Akron returns to the road this upcoming weekend traveling to the state of Indiana for a pair of contests. On Friday, Aug. 26, the Zips face off against Indiana State at 7 p.m., followed by a game versus Butler on Sunday, Aug. 28, at 1 p.m.
SCOUTING THE SYCAMORES
After the opening weekend of regular season play, Indiana State holds a 1-1-0 record. The Sycamores saw a win over Western Illinois, 3-0, in their season opener, but fell to Louisville, 0-4. ISU finished 6-10-1 overall in 2015 and went 1-4-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Indiana State's Gaelen Stejbach leads the offensive efforts with two goals and Katie Wells scored once in the Sycamores win over WIU. In 2015, Wells tallied one goal on the year, while Stejbach saw limited action.
In goal for Indiana State, Brittany San Roman posted her first shutout of the year against Western Illinois but allowed four goals in the Sycamores' loss versus Louisville. San Roman made 17 starts in 2015 and recorded a 1.64 GAA, making 97 saves and allowed 28 goals.
SCOUTING THE BUTLER
Butler enters the weekend holding a 1-0-1 record after the first two contests of the 2016 regular season. The Bulldogs bested Ohio, 2-1, on Aug. 19, and tied Eastern Michigan, 0-0, on Aug. 21. A year ago, Butler finished 16-7-1 and 6-3 in the Big East.
The Bulldogs' Serina Kashimoto and Breann Pempek have each notched one goal on the year. Kashimoto posted six goals in 2015, while Pempek scored just one.
Hannah Luedtke has started both games for Butler between the posts, has made six saves, allowed one goal and posted a shutout against Eastern Michigan.
SERIES HISTORY
Akron will be meeting both schools for the first time.
COACHES
Indiana State: Julie Hanley is entering her first year in charge of the Indiana State program. Hanley was recently an assistant coach at Iowa for four years before taking over for the Sycamores.
Butler: Tari St. John is in her 11th season as the head coach of the Bulldogs. St. John holds a 98-90-17 career record, all with Butler.
Akron: Noreen Herlihy is in her second year with the Akron women's soccer program and owns a 7-14-2 record with the Zips (all-time 257-127-32)
UP NEXT
The Zips are scheduled to square-off with Cleveland State on Sunday, Sept. 4, at 1 p.m. for their last road game prior to the 2016 home opener at FirstEnergy Stadium - Cub Cadet Field on Sept. 8.
