AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zips women's volleyball team has been predicted to finish sixth overall in the Eastern Division in the 2016 Mid-American Conference women's volleyball preseason poll on Monday, as selected by the leagues head coaches.
Under second-year head coach Tom Hanna, the Zips return 11 letter winners from last season's team, along with three newcomers.
Miami (Ohio) is predicated to come out of the Eastern Division atop of the standings followed by Kent State and Ohio. Rounding out the rest of the Eastern Division is Buffalo and Bowling Green.
Northern Illinois has been picked as the favorite to win the Western Division, while Western Michigan was the only other team to receive a first-place vote to sit behind the Huskies. Ball State finished in third followed by Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Toledo.
Miami (Ohio) is also tabbed to win the MAC regular season and tournament championships.
Akron will start its 43nd season on Friday, Aug. 26, on the road at the Pepsi Panther Invitational in Milwaukee, Wis. UA will face Western Illinois and host Milwaukee in a doubleheader at 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. ET, followed by a single match against Bradley on Saturday, Aug. 27.
Volleyball season tickets are just $40 for general admission. Discounted season tickets are available for current UA Faculty and Staff at $32. Special experiences are also available for group outings of 20 or more fans to any home game this season, starting at $4 per ticket. Single-game and group tickets will be available beginning in early August.
Season tickets can be purchased online at GoZips.com/tickets, by calling 1-888-99-AKRON (25766), or at the C.P. and Cornelia S. Chima Athletics Ticket Office. The ticket office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
