Three Meets on Zips' Track and Field Weekend Slate

AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron track and field team is set to compete in a trio of meets this weekend, as the Zips will participate in Drake Relays, Ashland Alumni Open and Hillsdale College Gina Relays beginning on Thursday, April 28.
Venturing to Des Moines, Iowa, to participate in the 107th running of the Drake Relays on Friday and Saturday, April 29-30, will be senior Claudia Garcia Jou (Barcelona, Spain), senior Caroline Hasse (Potsdam, Germany), redshirt junior Ana Martin-Sacristan (Valencia, Spain), sophomore Terrell McClain (Youngstown, Ohio), junior Clayton Murphy (New Paris, Ohio), senior Joe Oduho (Erie, Pa.), junior Matt Rowland (Bellevue, Ohio), freshman Curtis Richardson (Blacklick, Ohio), freshman Cody Stine (Shelby, Ohio), junior Becky Szabo (North Olmsted, Ohio), redshirt junior Natalie Zidd (Hinckley, Ohio) and junior Dan Zupan (Berea, Ohio).
Murphy will be one of the featured runners in the elite men's 800-meter race on Saturday, April 30. The field is scheduled to include; Boris Berian (2016 World Indoor 800m Champion/No. 6 World Ranking), Edward Kemboi (2015 NCAA 800m Indoor and Outdoor Champion), Ryan Martin (2015 Pan American Games Bronze Medalist/No. 33 World Ranking), Tyler Mulder (2008 NCAA Indoor 800m Champion), Chad Noelle (2015 NCAA 1,500m Champion), Erik Sowinski (2016 World Indoor 800m Bronze Medalist/No. 13 World Ranking), Mark Wieczorek and Drew Windle.
Heading to Hillsdale, Mich., to compete in the Hillsdale College Gina Relays this Thursday through Saturday, April 28-30, will be redshirt freshman Mackenzie Andrews (Toowoomba, Australia), freshman Cynthia Haas (Tallmadge, Ohio), redshirt sophomore Sarah Kupniewski (Erie, Pa.), redshirt junior Trevor Norris (Avon Lake, Ohio) and sophomore Tara Snipes (Covington, Ohio).
The remainder of the team will travel to Ashland, Ohio, to compete in the two-day Ashland Alumni Open on Friday and Saturday.
Akron currently has eight student-athletes ranked in the top-25 nationally by the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS), including McClain, who owns the No. 3 mark nationally in the men's long jump (26-1).
Also rated among the top-25 is Garcia Jou (third in high jump/6-1.50), Jagers (sixth in discus/201-2), Hasse (15th in pole vault/13-11.75), Murphy (22nd in the 800 meters/1:47.38), sophomore Jackie Siefring (Covington, Ohio) (14th in heptathlon/5,627 and 19th in 400M-hurdles/57.61), Oduho (25th in long jump/25-3.25) and Rowland (23rd in pole vault/17-4.50).
