2015 USTFCCCA DIVISION I ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM HONORS | 2015 USTFCCCA DIVISION I ALL-ACADEMIC INDIVIDUAL HONORS
NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Akron men's and women's cross country team under the leadership of head coaches Lee LaBadie and David Gramlich received recognition for their efforts in the classroom as both were honored by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as Division I All-Academic squads for the 2015 campaign.
"These accolades represent a special tribute to our teams and individuals for truly being student-athletes," LaBadie commented.
Garnering NCAA Division I All-Academic Individual accolades was senior Kyle Cochrun (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) and junior Clayton Murphy (New Paris, Ohio). The Akron duo represented two of the five total Mid-American Conference honorees on the men's side.
In order for a student-athlete to qualify for the award, they must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25, and finished in the top-25 (or 10 percent) at regionals or as an All-American at the national meet.
The Zips' men's team boasted a 3.47 cumulative team grade point average, marking the sixth-consecutive year in which the men's squad achieved USTFCCCA All-Academic accolades.
The Akron women's squad recorded a 3.35 GPA and was one of eight MAC schools to garner recognition for their work in the classroom.
Overall, 205 women's teams and 171 men's teams earned All-Academic honors.
