Seiler, Fruin Earn MAC Preseason Honors

AKRON, Ohio – A pair of University of Akron softball student-athletes have been selected to the College Sports Madness 2016 Preseason Mid-American All-Conference softball team.
Senior ace pitcher Erin Seiler (Bowling Green, Ohio) was tabbed as member of the All-MAC first-team, while junior centerfielder Savannah Fruin (Delray Beach, Fla.) was named a second-team All-MAC selection.
As a junior, Seiler earned first-team All-MAC and Academic All-MAC honors. She finished the season with a 23-19 overall record and a 2.17 ERA. Seiler broke her previous school strike out record (219) with an impressive 305 in 2015.
Fruin, who started all 51 games for the Zips in 2015, earned second-team All-MAC honors. The team's top returning batter, she hit .295 on 43 hits, 21 RBI, scored 25 runs and swiped 16 bases.
Akron, under 10th-year head coach Julie Jones, opens the 2016 campaign on Friday as the Zips travel to Deland, Fla. and Clermont, Fla. for the Dot Richardson Invitational on Feb. 12-14 for games against Stetson, Chattanooga, Bethune-Cookman, and Morgan State.
