Powells Point, N.C. – The Akron Zips men's golf team concluded the fall portion of the season with a third place showing at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate, carding a 4-under par 848 tournament total. The Zips fired back-to-back under-par team scores before posting a final round 287 (+3) at Kilmarlic Golf Club on Tuesday.
"I'm very proud of our effort this week and this entire fall season," Zips' head coach David Trainor said. "We have had some great team finishes and individual performances. Several guys have been rock solid all fall."
During the final round, senior J.B. Williams (Danville, Ky.) fired a 1-under par 70, marking his third straight under-par performance and fifth of the last six outings. Williams opened the final round with two pars and a birdie before a double bogey sent him to 1-over. Over the next five holes, he managed to get back to even-par with four par scores and a birdie to finish the front at 35 strokes. On the back, Williams carded a second 35 total with six pars, a birdie and a bogey.
Williams finished the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate third overall with a 6-under 207 54-hole total. He opened the tournament with a 67 (-4) and proceeded with a 70 (-1) and hit that mark again during the final round.
"J.B. played very well this week," Trainor said. "His play the last three events has been outstanding and is something the Akron community should be very proud of."
Two more Zips finished the three-day event in the Top 15 in junior George Baylis (Ascot, England) and senior Yann Pfeiffer (Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche, France). Baylis' final round 73 (+2) solidified an eighth place finish at 1-under par 212, while Pfeiffer's even-par 72 final round pushed him to 14th overall with a 213 (E) tournament effort.
Sophomore Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.) and senior Zach Gollwitzer (Baldwin, Mo.) rounded out the tournament scoring. Grayson carded rounds of 70 (-1), 73 (+2), and 77 (+5) for a 220 (+7), and Gollwitzer registered a 79-80-73 = 232 (+19) total.

ODU's David Langley won medalist honors with back-to-back rounds of 4-under par to finish 204 (-9), while UNCW's Patrick Cover was runner-up with a 206 (-7) scorecard.
