Bridgeport, W.Va. – After an hour fog delay at the Mountaineer Intercollegiate at the Pete Dye Course, the Akron men's golf team finally began to tee off. The Zips finished the initial 18-holes in third place with a 293 (+5), trailing the team leaders, Cincinnati (289, +1), by four strokes.
Unfortunately with the delay, the second round scores are not official, and the teams are scheduled to resume play with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. before the final round begins on Tuesday.Â
After the initial 18-holes of golf, senior J.B. Williams (Danville, Ky.) leads the Zips' scoring with a team-best 3-under par 69 score and tied for second on the leaderboard. Sophomore Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.) followed with a 73 (+1) and tied at 18th, while senior Yann Pfeiffer (Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche, France) was third in scoring for Akron with a 3-over 75 effort. Junior George Baylis (Ascot, England) and senior Zach Gollwitzer (Baldwin, Mo.) rounded out the scoring with scores of 76 (+4) and 78 (+8), respectively.
