AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron men's soccer team moved into a pair of national polls this week after a successful weekend in which the Zips posted road victories over No. 4 Georgetown (1-0) and No. 6 Maryland (3-2).
The Zips checked in at No. 22 in the latest College Soccer News Top 30 poll, their highest ranking of the season. Additionally, Akron received 57 votes in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) top 25 and was the top-vote getter not placed into the top 25 sitting at No. 26.
This week's polls included games through Sept. 6, so Akron's triumph against Maryland on Monday, Sept. 7, was not factored into the equation for rankings.
The Zips (3-1-0) open their 2015 home campaign on Friday, Sept. 11, hosting No. 14 Saint Louis at FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field. The 7 p.m. match will mark the 1,000th in program history.
