Day Two Results
LEBANON, Ohio – The Akron women's golf team remains in the hunt for the program's best-ever conference finish, closing day two of the 2015 Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championship in fifth place on Saturday.
The Zips ended day two with a 36-hole tally of 628 (+52) after posting a round of 25-over 313. Akron is just six shots out of second place. UA's best finish came in 2009 when the Zips closed play in a tie for third place.
Kent State leads the field by 13 shots with a two-day score of 609 (+33).
Three Zips sit inside the top-25, led by senior Laura Murray. Murray posted a round of 3-over 75 – tied for the fifth-lowest round of the day – to climb 17 spots on Saturday. She will enter Sunday's final round in a tie for 10th place (156, +12).
Frida Fougberg and Mallory Etcheberry closed the day tied for 16th and 24th place, respectively. Fougberg carded a round of 82 (+10) to end play with a score of 158 (+14) while Etcheberry posted an 8-over 80. Etcheberry will open tomorrow's round with a two-day tally of 160 (+16).
Alejandra Velasco-Villanueva rebounded from a tough first round to fire a 4-over 76 to climb 13 spots into a tie for 27th place (161, +17). She is just one shot outside the top 25.
Pader Her rounded out the scoring five in a tie for 38th place (165, +21). She posted a round of 87 (+15).
The final round will begin at 8 a.m. ET on Sunday, with players teeing off from the first tee. The Zips are set to start their round at 9:30 a.m. ET. Fans can follow all the action live via Golfstat Live Scoring.
