Seiler Named MAC Pitcher of the Week for Fourth Time

CLEVELAND — Akron junior Erin Seiler (Bowling Green, Ohio) was named the Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Week for the East Division for the fourth time this season, the league announced on Tuesday.
Last week, Seiler went a perfect 4-0 on the week for the Zips, including 3-0 in MAC road play.
In non-conference road action at Youngstown State on April 14, Seiler picked up her 17th win of the season in the 3-1 victory. She struck out 13 batters and walked none.
At Toledo on Friday, Seiler hurled all nine innings in the 2-1 victory. She struck out seven batters and walked six. For game two, she was called in relief to end the game, throwing the final 1.1 innings.
At Bowling Green on Saturday, Seiler added two more wins. In game one, she struck out seven batters and walked none. In the 8-0 shutout in five innings in game two, Seiler (20-12 overall, 7-5 MAC) earned her second win on the day. She struck out seven and walked none.
On the week, Seiler went 4-0 in 29.1 innings of work. She struck out 34 and walked six while earning a 0.92 ERA.
Seiler owns the Akron school record for Ks in a season. She now has 259 strikeouts in 34 games. The previous season record was 219 strikeouts, which she set as a freshman in 2013.
On the season, Seiler is the Zips' top hurler with a 2.61 ERA and a 20-12 overall record. She's struck out a Conference-best 259 batters and walked 51 in 207.0 innings of action. In 32 starts on the mound, Seiler has 29 complete games and six shutouts.
Seiler is Akron's career strikeout leader. To date, the junior has 649 career strikeouts. The previous record was 575 by Tina McCauley (2001-05).
The MAC honor is the fourth for Seiler this season. She also was recognized on Feb. 17, March 17, and April 14. Third baseman Alyssa Nicholas was named MAC Player of the Week on March 10.
Akron has a busy week at home. The Zips host Dayton in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 22, at 3 p.m. before hosting Miami (Ohio) in a MAC twinbill on Friday, April 24 at 1 p.m., and single MAC games with Ball State over the weekend. All games will be played at Lee R. Jackson Field.
