COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Akron women's golf team opened the Lady Buckeye Invitational with rounds of 329 (+41) and 310 (+22) to finish day one in 12th place at 639 (+63) on Saturday at Ohio State's Scarlet Golf Course.
Kent State leads the 12-team field with a 36-hole tally of 585 (+9).
Laura Murray led the way for the Zips in both rounds and carded an 81 (+9) in round one and posted a round two of 76 (+4). She ended the day tied for 48th place (157, +13).
Frida Fougberg trails right behind Murray in a tie for 52nd place with a score of 158 (+14) after matching Murray with a round one of 81 (+9) and posting a round two tally of 77 (+5).
Pader Her and Alejandra Velasco-Villanueva round out the scoring four for Akron after Velasco ended the day just one shot shy of tying Her.
Her registered a two-round score of 163 (+19) after a round one of 85 (+13) and a 78 (+6) in round two to tie for 64th. Velasco is tied for 67th with a tally of 164 (+20) after rounds of 85 (+13) and 79 (+7).
The Lady Buckeye Invitational continues on Sunday with the final round. Play is set to begin at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start instead of the originally scheduled tee times due to the weather forecast.
