Seiler Named MAC Pitcher of the Week

CLEVELAND — Akron junior Erin Seiler (Bowling Green, Ohio) was named the Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Week for the East Division, the league announced on Tuesday.
Additionally, Seiler was named the Zips' Student-Athlete of the Week.
Over the weekend, Seiler went 3-1 on the week for the Zips. At Kent State, she hurled all eight innings in game 1, fanning seven and walking none. She struck out three batters swinging in the bottom of the eighth to seal the win.
Against Buffalo on Saturday, Seiler struck out nine batters and walked one while hurling all seven innings in the 1-0 shutout.
Against Buffalo on Sunday, Seiler picked up her 16th win of the season (16-12 overall, 4-5 MAC). She struck out seven batters and walked none in the 9-0 win for her fifth shutout. With her seven strikeouts on the day, Seiler re-wrote her own school record for Ks in a season. She now has 225 strikeouts in 29 games. The previous season record was 219 strikeouts, which she set as a freshman in 2013.
On the season, Seiler is the Zips' top hurler with a 2.89 ERA and a 16-12 overall record. She's struck out a Conference-best 225 batters and walked 45 in 177.2 innings of action. In 28 starts on the mound, Seiler has 25 complete games and five shutouts.
Last weekend Seiler became Akron's career strikeout leader. To date, the junior has 615 career strikeouts. The previous record was 575 by Tina McCauley (2001-05).
The MAC honor is the third for Seiler this season. She also was recognized on Feb. 17 and March 17. Fellow Zip Alyssa Nicholas, who plays third base, was named MAC Player of the Week on March 10.
Following today's twinbill at Youngstown, Akron travels to Toledo for a Mid-American Conference doubleheader on Friday, April 17, at 1 p.m.
