Baseball Selected to Finish Third in MAC East

CLEVELAND – The University of Akron baseball team has been tabbed to finish third in the Mid-American Conference East Division, according to a preseason poll conducted by the 12 MAC coaches, the league office announced on Wednesday.
After finishing fifth in the MAC East last season with a 12-15 record through conference play, the Zips received 41 total points to secure the third-place prediction for the 2015 season.
Crosstown division rival and 2014 MAC Tournament champion Kent State led the poll with 68 total points as it was also picked to take the tournament crown again this season. The Golden Flashes received eight first place-votes, followed by Miami (Ohio) with three, and Bowling Green with one.
Ball State was chosen to finish first in the MAC West with 67 total points and eight first-place votes, while the West also had Central Michigan, Western Michigan, and Toledo earning votes.
Akron is set to open the 2015 season with a three-game series beginning on Friday, Feb. 13, at Furman at 4 p.m. The Zips open MAC play Friday, March 20, when they will travel to take on Western Division foe Eastern Michigan.
