PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – Frida Fougberg posted the low round of her career to move within three shots of the lead as the University of Akron women's golf team battled a wet course to close round two of the Golfweek Program Challenge in an eighth-place tie on Monday.
Fougberg fired a career-best round of 1-under 70 thanks to birdies on three of her final seven holes. She moved into a tie for fourth place with a 36-hole score of 144 (+2) and will enter the final round just three shots off the lead. Her 70 is the lowest aggregate round of her career and tied for her lowest round under par (Indiana Invitational, April 13, 2013).
After rain delayed the start of play for nearly six hours, the Zips posted a round of 25-over 309 to finish tied with Northern Iowa with a 36-hole score of 615 (+47). Campbell saw its lead shrink to two shots with one round to go (582, +14).
Freshman Pader Her, making her collegiate debut, improved her first-round score by two shots, carding a 2-over 73 to move into a tie for ninth place (148, +6).
Laura Murray is tied for 46th place (160, +18) after her round of 11-over 82 while Mallory Etcheberry is in 51st place with a total score of 163 (+21). Etcheberry posted a round of 84 (+13) on Monday.
Alejandra Velasco-Villanueva, making her Zips' debut, rounded out the scoring-five in 59th place (176, +34) after a second-round 87 (+16).
The Zips will conclude the tournament on Tuesday, with tee times set to begin at 7:40 a.m. ET from the 10th tee. Fans can follow the final round via Golfstat Live Scoring.
