Women's Soccer Falls in Season Opener at Pittsburgh, 3-0

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Opening their season on the road in the Steel City Classic, the University of Akron women's soccer team lost 3-0 to host Pittsburgh on Friday night at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
After drawing to a tie through 110 minutes of play just one week ago at home against Duquesne in their lone exhibition match this fall, the Zips managed just one shot in this match. Senior Lani Smith missed high in the 14th minute as the Panthers controlled the game for most of the night.
Pittsburgh took an early lead against Akron, scoring first in the ninth minute, and continued in the middle of the game with goals in the 41st and 49th minutes as well.
The Panthers took 15 shots compared to UA's one, while also attempting three corner kicks with the Zips not taking any.
In total, 21 players on the Zips' roster got playing time in the game with 20 of those securing double digit minutes in the loss.
Junior Klaire Adee made two saves in goal while playing the first 48 minutes and 50 seconds of the match. Senior Alex Luevano-Harden took over in the 49th minute and allowed no goals in her 41 minutes and 10 seconds of action in net, also making two saves
The Zips take on Robert Morris on Sunday in their second and final game of the tournament starting at 11 a.m.
