ATLANTA -- The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced today that University of Akron senior Rachel Tecca has been recognized as an All-Region nominee for the WBCA Division I Coaches' All-America Team.
Tecca is one of six honorees from Region 4, and one of three from the Mid-American Conference, as she is joined by Crystal Bradford of Central Michigan and Alexis Rogers from Bowling Green.
Tecca finished her career as Akron's all-time leading scorer and rebounder. She was the first UA player to surpass 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career, and just the second player in Mid-American Conference history to reach the milestone.
The Tallmadge, Ohio native holds a total of 12 individual school records at Akron, including career field goals made and career free throws made. She also set the single-game scoring record earlier this season when she scored 43 points on the road at Eastern Michigan, earning NCAA Player of the Week honors for her efforts.
Tecca was named the 2014 Mid-American Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player after she scored 30 points against Ball State in the championship game, leading the Zips to their first MAC title and NCAA Tournament appearance in the 40-year history of Akron women's basketball.
A three-time All-MAC First Team selection, Tecca is also a two-time Academic All-American, including first team honors in 2014. She will graduate from UA with a master's degree in business administration in May.
The WBCA selection committee uses an equation to determine a fair number of nominees from each region. The number of Division I institutions in each region is divided by the number of Division I institutions overall to determine a percentage for each region. The percentage is then multiplied by 52 (the total number of desired finalists) to get the number of finalists for each region.
The 2014 WBCA Division I Coaches' All-America Team will be announced at 2:10 p.m. ET Saturday April 5, during NCAA® Women's Final Four® Super Saturday festivities in Nashville's Bridgestone Arena.
