MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Akron struggled to bounce back from a snow delay early in the game, coming up short in a 4-3 loss to Siena on Friday afternoon.
UA (11-6) scored its three runs on three hits, one each from Chelsea Wildey, Taryn Allmon and Kellie Roudabush.
Erin Seiler struck out six in the loss, moving her record to 6-2 in the circle for the season.
Siena (7-10) was led by a double and a home run from its third baseman Abby Carpenter.
The Zips scored first in the top of the second inning when Jessica Schneider drew a leadoff walk. She advanced to second on an Allmon ground out, stole third, and advanced home as Roudabush got caught off first base.
Roudabush stepped to the plate in the fourth inning to tie the game at two, putting a single through the right side to score Wildey. Siena answered in the bottom half of the inning on Carpenter's solo shot that gave the Saints back the lead.
Savannah Fruin earned one back for the Zips in the sixth, but UA's rally was cut short when the Zips were unable to convert with two runners in scoring position and two down.
Akron faces a quick turnaround as it returns to the field tomorrow for its home opener. The Zips will host Niagara in a doubleheader at Lee R. Jackson Field, beginning at 2 p.m., one hour later than its originally scheduled start time.
