AKRON, Ohio – Akron outfielder Devan Ahart has been named Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
This is the first time this season an Akron player has earned the honor, and is Ahart's first career player of the week award.
Ahart had one of the strongest offensive weekends of his collegiate career this past weekend in games against Austin Peay and Milwaukee. He began the weekend with a 3-for-5 performance, three runs, three RBI and two stolen bases against Austin Peay. Ahart also recorded his first collegiate home run, a two-run shot off of APSU.
He followed up his performance on Saturday recording two more base hits along with one RBI against UWM. Ahart's power came alive yet again in the weekend finale on Sunday vs. Milwaukee, as he hit his second homer of the weekend, a three-run home run, and finished the game going 3-for-6 with two runs and three RBI.
Overall this weekend, Ahart led the team with five runs, eight hits, seven RBI and two homers, ending the road trip with a .533 batting average (8-for-15) and a .933 slugging percentage. Ahart also played all three games in centerfield without recording an error.
Ahart is riding a four-game multi-hit streak, and has seven total multi-hit games in 11 starts this season. He leads the Akron offense in batting average (.404), on-base percentage (.462), stolen bases (eight), and hits (19) while batting out of the three-hole in the lineup.
