TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The University of Akron men's cross country team closed the 2014 Pre National Invitational in 26th place while the women's squad closed the day in 28th place on Saturday.
Competing in the final tune-up before next month's Mid-American Conference Championships, the Zips competed in an elite field on the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, the same course that will play host to the 2014 NCAA Division I National Championship meet on Nov. 22.
The men's squad posted a team score of 689 to improve 19 spots from last year's 45th-place performance in the Blue Division of the men's 8K. This year's field featured 43 teams, including the top-two teams in the nation – No. 1 Colorado (2014 team champion) and No. 2 Oregon – as well as seven top-30 teams in the latest USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll.
