PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – The University of Akron women's golf team closed the first round of 2013 in seventh place on Sunday during day one of the Golfweek Program Challenge on the par-71, 6,038-yard Caledonia Golf & Fish Club.
The Zips posted a round of 27-over 311, led by Frida Fougberg's round of 3-over 74. Foughberg will enter tomorrow's round in a tie for 14th place.
Campbell paced the field with a team-score of 290 (+6) while Western Carolina (293, +9) and Stetson (294, +10) rounded out the top three.
Freshman Lina Bengtsson is tied for 30th place after carding a score of 6-over 77, her first in the college ranks. Laura Murray and Sara Chaves are tied for 40th place following scores of 80 (+9).
Sierra Everson rounded out the scoring-five in a tie for 43rd place (81, +10).
The Zips will tee off on Monday at 7:30 a.m. ET from the tenth tee. Fans can follow all three rounds via Golfstat Live Scoring.
The women's squad is joined by the men's squad at the Golfweek Program Challenge, which awards a men's and women's team champion, as well as a program team champion (combined men's and women's scores from each program). This is the first appearance for Akron in the event.
