Baseball Falls to Miami at Home, 7-2

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron (5-22, 2-5 MAC) baseball team was defeated by Miami University (13-12, 6-1 MAC) by a score of 7-2 on Friday afternoon at Lee R. Jackson Baseball Field in the series opener of a three game Mid-American Conference matchup.
Freshman JT Brubaker started at pitcher for the Zips, and turned in 4.1 innings pitched with five earned runs and three strikeouts. Brubaker was tagged with the loss to drop his season record to 0-6.
Seven different Zips players registered base knocks in the loss to the RedHawks, including Matt LaRocca and Jared Turocy. LaRocca's hit pushed his consecutive game hit streak to 10 games, while Turocy's hit extended his consecutive game hit streak to eight games.
Centerfielder Devan Ahart recorded one base hit and one run scored in the loss. Ahart now has six runs scored this season, along with the second most hits in the Akron lineup with 27 hits.
Brady Stewart and Matt Rembielak were credited with one hit and one RBI a piece on Friday afternoon. Rembielak's RBI was his seventh of the season, and Stewart's RBI was his sixth of the season.
Akron and Miami will matchup again on Saturday at Lee R Jackson Baseball Field with a 1 p.m., first pitch. Freshman John Valek III is the scheduled starter for UA, which will be his seventh start of the season.
