AKRON, Ohio – Gold defeated Blue by a score of 7-1 in game four of the Fall World Series on Tuesday afternoon at Lee R. Jackson Field.
The Gold offense took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, a lead the squad would not give up for the duration of the game. Back-to-back base hit bunts by Devan Ahart and Dom Iero put the Zips on second and third with no outs.
With men on second and third, Matt LaRocca drove in Ahart from third on an RBI groundout to second, which was followed by an RBI groundout by Joey Havrilak to bring in Iero.
Blue struck for their lone run of the game in the top of the second to bring the game to 2-1. Sophomore Daulton Mosbarger led off the second with a single, and quickly took second in the next at-bat. Mosbarger was driven in by freshman Mason Mamarella on a double to left field.
In the bottom of the second, Gold began to pull away from the Blue squad. Gerrad Rohan doubled down the line for the first hit of the inning, and was later driven in during Danny Lawrence's single. Following Rohan's run, Ahart notched an RBI single, and was followed by Iero with a two RBI single.
Gold's offense went on to score one run in both the seventh and eighth inning to bring the game to its final score of 7-1.
Jon Pusateri made a strong start on the mound for the Gold team, as he allowed just one run on four hits with three strikeouts. John Valek III tossed two scoreless innings and Zak Knettel worked one scoreless frame to close out the contest.
Pat Dyer was on the bump to start the game for Blue. Dyer finished the game with 6.0 innings pitched, five earned runs and four strikeouts.
The Fall World Series will conclude on Wednesday at 3 p.m., for game five at Lee R. Jackson Field.
