Akron Softball Drops 11-0 Decision at Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Akron softball team closed out its first Mid-American Conference road trip with an 11-0 loss (five innings) at Ball State on Sunday.
The Zips (13-22-1, 0-8 MAC) struggled at the plate, recording just one hit and one walk. The Akron defense committed three errors.
Brittany Maurer (11-17) was credited for the loss, allowing eight runs (six earned) on four hits in 2.1 innings of work. Maurer also record the Zips' only hit, an infield single in the top of the fourth.
Ball State (24-11, 4-2 MAC) scored two runs on one hit and an error in the bottom of the first. The Zips had a good scoring opportunity in the top of the third.
With two outs, Kellie Roudabush was hit by a pitch and Alissa Birkhimer reached on a throwing error by the BSU pitcher. Rachael Ratcliffe loaded the bases when she was also hit by a pitch, but Allison Dorr struck out swinging to end the inning.
Ball State opened up a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the third, plating five runs on three hits and two Akron errors. The Cardinals would add four more runs in the bottom of the fourth and retired the Zips in order in the top of the fifth to end the game.
Akron steps away from MAC play when the squad travels to Loretto, Pa., to face St. Francis (Pa.) on Tuesday, April 10. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3 p.m. ET.
