Akron Hosts Bowling Green for Three at Canal Park
Akron looks to get back above .500 in conference play this weekend, hosting Bowling Green at Canal Park.
A Look at Bowling Green
Bowling Green is 11-17 and 2-4 in conference play this season. The Falcons were swept by Western Michigan in the opening weekend of conference play but took two of three from Central Michigan last weekend.
Andrew Kubinksi (.412, 22 RBI) leads a club that hits .305 as a team. Eight other Falcons hit above .300 and TJ Losby has equaled Kubinski's RBI mark. On the mound, BGSU has a team ERA of 4.82 and opponents are batting .287. Closer Nick Bruns has four saves and a 1.02 ERA. Jason Link and Ben Singer have made 13 relief appearances each.
The Falcons have committed a MAC-high 64 errors and have a fielding percentage of just .942.

• Akron dropped 2-of-3 at Northern Illinois last weekend to even its MAC record at 3-3.
• After starting the season 1-8, Akron is 9-9 in its last 18 games. UA is hitting .283 and has a team ERA of 3.57 during that span.
• Sophomore Tyler Begun has moved into the top 100 in the national statistical rankings in several categories. Begun is 93rd in the batting average (.386), 44th in triples (3), 77th in slugging (.624), 85th in total bases (63), and 63rd in on-base percentage (.484).
• Freshman Pat Dyer was named MAC East Pitcher of the Week on Monday. Dyer tossed his first complete game last Saturday, beating Northern Illinois 8-1. Dyer struck out seven and walked just one. Dyer has allowed just two earned runs in his last four starts for a 0.66 ERA (27.1 innings).
• Redshirt freshman Joey Havrilak returned to the every day line-up last week and responded by hitting .500 with four runs scored and four RBIs in five games. Havrilak batted 7-for-13 in the NIU series.
• Bowling Green owns a 39-24 edge in the all-time series. The Falcons won two-of-three in Bowling Green last season.
• Redshirt freshman Devan Ahart is 61st in the nation and third in the MAC in stolen bases with 12. Ahart has yet to be caught stealing this season.
The Series with Bowling Green
The Zips are 24-39 all-time against Bowling Green. The Falcons won two of three last season in Bowling Green. That series was originally scheduled to be played in Akron, but was moved to Bowling Green. UA remained the home team.
Recapping Last Weekend's Action
UA dropped two of three at Northern Illinois last weekend. The Zips won the middle game 8-1, but were beaten Friday (5-10) and Sunday (2-8). Freshman Pat Dyer had the top UA performance, tossing a complete game six-hitter in Saturday's win. Redshirt freshman Joey Havrilak went 7-for-13 in the series.
Dyer Named MAC East Pitcher of the Week
Freshman Pat Dyer earned UA's first weekly MAC award of the season on Monday. Dyer was named MAC East Pitcher of the Week after throwing a complete game six-hitter against NIU on Saturday. The lefty struck out seven and walked just one.

Pat Dyer has strung together four outstanding efforts on the mound. In his last four starts, he has allowed just two earned runs in 27.1 innings for an ERA of 0.66.
Streaking
Sophomore Tyler Begun has been impressive all season long for Akron. Begun has hit safely in 12 straight games and reached base safely in 23 consecutive contests. The Mayfield Village native has reached base in all but two games this season.

Tyler Begun ranks amongst the top hitters in the MAC. He is fourth in batting average, fifth in slugging and second in on-base percentage. Begun also ranks in the top 100 nationally in several statistical categories. Among those rankings is a 63rd ranking in on-base percentage and a 44th ranking in triples.

Sophomore Brady Stewart has matched classmate Tyler Begun with a 12-game hitting streak of his own. Stewart owns the club's second-best batting average (.329) and has scored 12 runs.

Rembielak in the MAC
Akron first-year coach Rick Rembielak is making a return to the Mid-American Conference, where he went 200-100 (.667) in conference play in 11 seasons as the head coach at Kent State (1994-2004).

Akron has thrown out 15 would be base stealers this season, tied for third best in the MAC. Sophomore catcher Brady Stewart has gunned down eight base runners. That total is tied for fourth in the league rankings.

In midweek action next week, Akron hosts Pittsburgh to Canal Park on Tuesday and travels to Ohio State on Wednesday. UA then heads to Buffalo for MAC action next weekend.
