Akron Softball Plays Host to Niagara on Tuesday
April 02 | Softball
AKRON, Ohio – The Akron softball team will step away from Mid-American Conference play when it plays host to Niagara in a doubleheader on Tuesday at Lee R. Jackson Softball Field.
The Zips (11-18-1, 0-4 MAC) and Purple Eagles (4-18, 0-0 MAAC) will take the field at 3 p.m. ET for game one of the twin bill. Game two is set to begin at 5 p.m.
Akron enters the non-conference matchup after dropping two games to Bowling Green over the weekend. The Zips and Falcons were in a pitching duel in game one of the series on Saturday, with the two teams combining for just four hits and 11 strikeouts. BGSU would score three in the top of the sixth and one in the top of the seventh for the 4-0 win.
On Sunday, UA rallied from a 6-1 deficit through three innings by posting one run in the fourth and fifth innings, and three runs in the bottom of the sixth. However, the rally would fall short as Akron would fall 7-6.
The Purple Eagles enter the contest with a 4-18 overall record and have yet to play a game in MAAC play. Niagara has not played since March 21 and has dropped seven-straight games.
All Akron softball games are free to the public. Fans unable to attend the games can watch the action live online by visiting GoZips.com via a free video stream.
The Zips will continue MAC play on Friday, April 6, when they travel to Oxford, Ohio to face the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks. First pitch for game one of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
