Akron Softball Travels to Robert Morris for Tuesday Doubleheader

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron softball will step away from Mid-American Conference play for the final time this season when they travel to Moon Township, Pa., to face Robert Morris on Tuesday.
Akron (14-23-1, 1-9 MAC) and Robert Morris (25-17, 10-4 NEC) will take the field for game one at 3 p.m. ET. Game two is set for a 5 p.m. start. Fans can follow both games live online by visiting the softball schedule page on GoZips.com and clicking on the "Live Stats" link next to each game.
The Zips are coming off a 1-1 performance over the weekend, falling 9-7 as Ohio on Saturday and defeating the Bobcats 2-0 on Sunday.
On Saturday, UA rallied from a 7-2 deficit in the final two innings, including a four-run seventh, before falling to the Bobcats. Rachael Ratcliffe led the Akron offense at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBIs and one run scored.
Sunday saw a pitcher's duel between the two squads as Brittany Maurer (12-18) got the complete-game shutout, giving up just five hits and striking out four without issuing a walk.
Alissa Birkhimer provided the offense for Akron, going 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored courtesy of her sixth home run of the season.
RMU enters the game riding a three-game winning streak and have been victorious in five of its last seven games at home. The Colonials swept Mount St. Mary's over the weekend, including a 12-0 no-hit performance on Sunday.
The Zips will return home for four games beginning with a doubleheader against defending Mid-American Conference champion Western Michigan on Friday, April 20. First pitch for the twin bill is set for 1 p.m.
