Men's Golf Concludes UCF Rio Pinar Invitational in Seventh Place

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Akron men's golf team, led by junior Cameron Simmons, finished in seventh place on Tuesday at the UCF Rio Pinar Invitational at the par-72, 7,001-yard Rio Pinar Country Club.
Simmons' round of 3-under 69 was one shot off his career-low round (68) and vaulted him 14 spots up the leaderboard during the final round. He concluded the week with a score of 1-over 217 and in a tie for 20th place.
The Zips finished the invitational with a three-round score of 878 (+14) after carding a 5-over 293 on Tuesday. Wichita State, trailing by three shots entering the day, fired a tournament-low 278 (-10) to win the event.
Ryan Mason earned a top-25 finish thanks to a round of 1-over 73 on the day to close out the week with a tally of 2-over 218 (25th place). Charlie Bull just missed a top-25 placing as he finished one shot behind Mason (219, +3) in a tie for 26th place after posting a round of even-par 72.
Tim Lew posted a round of 79 (+7) to finish in a tie for 50th place (225, +9), while Harry Whittle rounded out the score five in a group at 22-over 238. He ended the day with a round of 11-over 83 to finish in 84th place.
The Zips are off until April 10 when they travel to Memphis, Tenn., for the Memphis Intercollegiate.
