Women's Golf Grabs Day One Lead at Rio Verde Invitational

RIO VERDE, Ariz. – Behind strong performances by seniors Kristen Hill and Katie Jenior, the Akron women's golf team grabbed the day-one lead at 10th Annual Rio Verde Invitational on Friday.
The Zips posted a score of 305 (+21) to lead by one stroke over Missouri State and defending tournament champion and Mid-American Conference foe Eastern Michigan.
Hill closed the day tied for second place with a score of 2-over 73 while Jenior is two strokes back thanks to a 4-over 75 in a two-way tie for sixth place.
Freshman Sara Johansson carded a round of 77 (+6) to finish tied for 15th place while fellow freshman Laura Murray is in a group at 9-over 80 and tied for 38th place.
Senior Amanda Butler closed out the squad tied for 48th place after posting a round of 10-over 81.
The Zips will return to action tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. ET with a shotgun start to the second round.
